May 2014 Artist in Residency: amy elkins
We're incredibly excited to welcome our first out of state artist in residence to the lab, Amy Elkins! Elkins is an L.A.-based artist who will be prepping for upcoming exhibitions at Aperture Gallery as the winner of their 2014 Portfolio prize. The project she'll be working on is Black is the Day, Black is the Night, a "conceptual exploration into the many facets of human identity using notions of time, accumulation, memory and distance through personal correspondence with men serving life and death row sentences in some of the most maximum security prisons in the U.S., all of which had served between 13-26 years at point of contact."
Elkins' residency will last from late May into early June, and we'll be announcing open studio hours in the next couple of weeks. We'll also be announcing a talk when Elkins will discuss her work, details TBA. A big thanks to The Perch for collaborating with us on the residency!
