June 2015 Artist in Residency: Huong Ngo

Welcome to our latest artist in residence, Huong Ngo! 

Hương Ngô is an interdisciplinary artist, born in Hong Kong and based everywhere. A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied art & technology and began a performance-based practice, she was a fellow at the Whitney Independent Study Program (New York, NY) and a recent resident at the Camargo Foundation (Cassis, France) where she began research on the anti-colonial leader and proto-feminist Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai at the Archives Nationale d’Outre Mer in Aix-en-Provence. Ngô will resume this project while at Latitude, specifically by examining the relationships among visual technologies, the formation of the colonial subject, the performance of identity, and gestures of resistance. She will continue this project at her upcoming residency at Millay Colony (Austerlitz, NY) and in Vietnam, for which she recently received the Fulbright U.S. Scholars Grant. Ngô will present a solo project at The Franklin (Chicago, IL) in 2016. She makes music as Tuen Mun, named after one of the sites where her family spent time as refugees.
