LATITUDE hosts reading groups on a variety of academic and theory-based topics. Our reading groups  bring together attendees in a scholarly, open forum outside of an academic or institutional environment. We work hard to keep reading groups as close to free as possible, any fees applied to a reading group helps LATITUDE offset costs and support the hardworking staff and volunteers making it all happen. If you are not able to participate due to the financial requirement please contact us and we may be able to make accommodations.

Contact us at with any and all questions, to share a proposal, or potentially lead a future reading group

LATITUDE's Simulation & Sight Reading Group will be co-hosted by James Toftness & Simon Pyle. The group will be meeting bi-weekly on Thursdays from 6:30 - 8:30 PM starting on October 5th & ending on December 14th, with some additional programming on off-weeks.

The group will focus on the philosophical lineage of simulation and its influence on photography and photographic thinking. Real vs. fake. True vs. false. Simulation and our reliance on sight have always had a tenuous relationship with notions of truth and reality. Photography is an inescapable fake, in the theory of Plato, yet persistently we rely on it as fact.

Readings include work by: Jean Baudrillard, William Gibson, Hito Steyerl, Joan Fontcuberta, Michael Graziano, & more!
